The Marzipan Pig – Lifestyle and Coffee Shop in Stoke-on-Trent

The world needs more businesses like Stoke on Trent’s Marzipan Pig. A trendy café turned lifestyle store, this delightful shop is Stoke’s hidden treasure

On Good Friday, I took a long overdue visit to The Marzipan Pig in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. Stokies may well know The Marzipan Pig as the Tsp Café, however they have recently rebranded into a lifestyle boutique. It’s slightly shameful how long it took me to amble over to Hanley for a look, but perhaps it was kinder on my bank account to have avoided it!

I am incredibly thankful that The Marzipan Pig did not exist while I was at uni. There is not a single item in this beautiful shop that I didn’t want to leave with and I am amazed I only bought one item! The shop is well stocked with chic home and giftware without feeling too packed. You’re unlikely to find similar items elsewhere in Stoke so is ideal for picking up unique gifts. They also stock Keep Cups, which you may remember made an appearance in my well-being wish list.

I was particularly pleased to see that they are a Nikki McWilliams stockist, as I have long wanted one of her famous biscuit cushions. It was strange to finally see her items IRL as I’m so used to browsing her items on Etsy! Oddly enough, I walked out with her Iced Gem enamel pin which I wasn’t particularly drawn to online – it goes to show how beneficial it is to be able to see items up close.

I experienced a great deal of internal debate over whether to purchase a Tunnocks Caramel Wafer cushion for 20% off, however with a big holiday to save for I decided against it for now. No thanks to those of you who follow my Instagram stories, with over 91% of you encouraging me to go for it! What terrible enablers you all are…

The Marzipan Pig still functions as a coffee shop, though there is limited seating. This is understandable, given that you would want to encourage people to browse the shop comfortably, and we enjoyed drinking our coffees and eating our cakes at the large, bright window. Price wise it’s a little expensive for food and drink, however no more than other similar cafés and you should expect to pay a little extra to support independent businesses.

There is no doubt I will be returning to the Marzipan Pig to buy my dream cushion and coffee mug. If you’re in Stoke-on-Trent, I recommend making the slight detour from the shopping centre and dropping into The Marzipan Pig for a coffee. Be warned – you may leave with more than you expect!

You can follow The Marzipan Pig on Instagram for store updates and pictures of their amazing cakes.

Edit 6th May 2018 – Sadly The Marzipan Pig closed its doors shortly after this blog post. They have returned to trading as Tsp, and now make custom cakes (that look delicious!)
